More about me

My time at Penland was transformative. Cynthia Bringle’s art is really the object in use.  Working at Penland, I had the opportunity to delve more deeply into form and function as the art, and saw newly how glaze and design on clay relate to and interact with form and function.  We worked tirelessly on lids and handles and how they relate to the form.

I was also introduced to soda and ash glazes, real classic NC glazing, which I had little to no experience working with before Penland.  I also became more aware of how treating the clay before bisquing—stamping carving, patterning etc— can accent and enhance glazing in whole new ways.

One of my big take-aways from Penland was the importance of editing my work;  that is to really look at what I am producing and to throw out work that is no good.

Making beautiful things is all I want to do.
